How I Actually Build Products: My 11 Step Design Process This isn’t theory. This is how I go from blank canvas to shipped product. Every time.
Research: Competitors, Affinity Mapping, User Journey Deep market homework first. I dissect competitors to find their weak spots. Affinity mapping turns messy user feedback into clear themes. User journey maps reveal exactly where people drop off. This prevents building solutions nobody needs.

Stakeholder Interviews & Mock Testing Talk to the real decision-makers—PMs, execs, early users. Quick paper sketches or Figma mocks test core ideas in 30 minutes. This catches “you’re solving the wrong problem” before weeks of wasted design. Validation before investment.

Mood Board & Inspiration Visual direction sets everything. I collect colors, typography, textures that capture the brand’s soul. Every style decision later references this board. Your mood board = your design bible.

Skeleton Wireframes Pure architecture. Grayscale boxes and lines only—no distractions. Focus on information flow, navigation, core user paths. This is where I kill bad ideas fast. Structure before style.

Screens Wireframes become real layouts. Establish 8pt grids, spacing rhythms, screen-to-screen relationships. Every screen should instantly feel connected. Consistency creates trust.

Layers Ruthless organization. Group related elements logically. Name layers clearly (“Header/Nav/Login”) instead of “Layer-57-Copy-2”. Clean files = fast iteration for everyone. Organization scales.

Design System & Variables Build the rules once. Color tokens ( primary-500 ), type scales, spacing variables. One update ripples across the entire product automatically. Systems beat manual work.

Components, States & Properties Reusable building blocks. One flexible button handles 10 use cases with hover, loading, disabled states. Figma Properties keep the library clean and scalable. One component, infinite uses.

Detailing (Low-fi → Hi-fi) The polish. Shadows with purpose, icons that communicate instantly, real user data (not lorem ipsum), subtle micro-animations. Functional becomes memorable. Details create delight.

UI/UX Audits (Before Shipping) Final quality gate from all perspectives. Check WCAG accessibility, flow consistency, edge cases, mobile breakpoints, performance. Catches 90% of post-launch fires before they start. Audits = insurance.

Tracking & Iterating Launch, then observe. Analytics show real user struggles. Interviews uncover unspoken pain points. Every insight feeds back into step 1.

Design never finishes. This system delivers.
